About Us
Based in Crested Butte, Colorado, Solar Junkyard was formed in 2005. The band has since become known for solid grooves, highly percussive rhythms, and an explosive live chemistry. The five-piece ensemble consists of Casey Falter (electric guitar and vocals), Marc Malcuit (congas and percussion), Kevin Reinert (keyboards, electric mandolin and vocals), Chris Penfield (drums), and Brian Schneider (electric bass and vocals).
Solar Junkyard's energetic, syncopated grooves have earned the band a devoted following. Solar Junkyard has forged a unique sound by mixing original compositions with songs by artists such as Greyboy Allstars, Vinyl, and Beastie Boys. Whatever the tune, the Junkyard plays in the pocket with tight changes utilizing a wide dynamic range, moving easily from solid grooves to epic jams - a recipe that creates a danceable vibe in any room.
Solar Junkyard performs frequently in the Gunnison Valley at venues such as The Eldo and Timbers, and for local events including the Crested Butte Alpenglow Concert Series, Fat Tire Bike Week, and the Al Johnson Telemark Ski Race. The band has shared the stage with acts such as Mama's Cookin', Lyrics Born, and Rose Hill Drive. As they continue to write new music, the band members look forward to spreading their vibrations throughout Colorado and beyond.
